Youth Participation Events

Youth Forum Establishment: Shaping the European Vision for a Sustainable Blue Economy

Location: Greece

This foundational event brings together young people, particularly from marginalized coastal regions, to collaboratively envision what a sustainable and inclusive blue economy in Europe should look like. Participants engage in policy mentorship, discussions, and collaborative planning sessions aimed at influencing EU strategies for environmental sustainability. The forum emphasizes systems thinking, youth-led narratives, and critical dialogue around democratic participation, sustainable production, and the future of the oceans. The outcome of the event is a co-created Policy Paper on Blue Sustainable Development, expressing the collective vision of young people for the future of Europe’s marine policy and sustainable economic models.

Youth Podcasts: “The Blue Challenge”

Location: Spain

This activity invites young people to become media creators and storytellers by producing podcast episodes that explore their role in ESG (environmental, social, and governance) frameworks—particularly as they relate to investment decision-making in Europe. Participants are trained in podcast production, content development, and critical communication, and they use these tools to conduct interviews, share personal perspectives, and challenge assumptions about youth influence in climate finance and environmental governance. The podcast serves as both a learning tool and a dissemination platform for broader youth engagement.

Youth Local Talk: Youth and Global Environmental Frameworks

Location: Greece

This locally organized talk engages young participants in the question: “How can young people participate in co-creating international frameworks and guidelines to protect the blue environment?” It provides a space for dialogue with community members, local authorities, and environmental experts. Participants work together to identify obstacles to youth inclusion in global decision-making and propose actionable pathways to embed youth participation in international environmental governance. The emphasis is on building real-world connections between local knowledge and global climate policy.

Youth Laboratory Round Table with Businesses and Policymakers

Location: Cyprus

This cross-sector policy lab offers a hands-on experience where young people engage directly with business representatives and policymakers. The event focuses on strengthening participants’ abilities to shape sustainable blue economy models through structured dialogue, negotiation, and policy simulation exercises. Young people propose practical solutions to real policy challenges while gaining insight into how governance systems operate. The lab fosters cooperation between youth, institutions, and the private sector, aiming to bridge the gap between innovative ideas and institutional change.
